Stories are medicine, the Lennon's of life. Stories have saved my
life many times. When I recognize myself in a story or when a story
mirrors a great event in my life, it enables me to become a witness
of my own story.
These short stories tell what happens on our ''werf'' at Theefontein,
stories about my childhood in Carnarvon, stories about rude turkeys,
stories about the sun in summer beating down on our ''sinkdakke'',
stories about how to ''read'' the weather, waiting for days on end
for a cloud to arrive on the horizon and the joy when the Great
Gardener empties buckets of water over the plains.
